Eating Out part 2

Went to Guad's downtown and ordered the fish tacos.  The tilapia was described as "breaded."  Hmm...yep they were fried.  I guess I assumed they would be grilled.  Well, as it turns out my pescetarian friend whose fish tacos I envied were grilled because he knew you have to ask to have them grilled!  I didn't know that.  They were yummy.  I will order them in the future, I'll just ask for them to be grilled.

So in my past post Imentioned a Skinny Bitch book.  I wasn't specific enough.  It was the Skinny Bitch Everyday Cookbook.  The introduction talks about the horrors of our food production in this country.  Last night I bought the first Skinny Bitch book, which talks about all of the chemicals in our food.  Let's just say I skipped the daily soda at lunch.  OMG I don't know how our bodies have stood it for so long and of course evetually the chemicals do get us.  I'm frankly shocked we're living as long as we are. First of all I think EVERYONE needs a copy of this book.  Go out and buy it NOW.  It's written by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin.  I am going to quote the book at the beginning of my blog each day, or whenever I feel like it.

I also bought Run Like a Mother.  Since I haven't put down Skinny Bitch I haven't delved into that yet.  More to come.

So here's a bit from Skinny Bitch..."Don't go patting yourself on the back if you drink diet soda.  That stuff is even worse (than regular.)  Aspartame (an ingrediant commonly found in diet sodas and other sugar free foods) has been blamed for a slew of scary maladies, like arthritis, birth defects, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer's, lupus, MS, and diabetes.  When methyl alcohol, a component of aspartame, enters your body it turns into formaldehyde."  Yummy!

  1. Diet Coke was actually one of the hardest things for me to give up when I started eating healthier. I slowly cut back to one can a day, one every couple days, once a week, and by then I wasn't interested in drinking it anymore. You can do it!

  2. It's true. A friend with juvenile diabetes has had major problems with the blood vessels in his eyes due to his indulgence in diet coke. I believe it's called macular degeneration. He's legally blind in one eye now. Aspartame is evil!
